LAST LIGHT'S SIGHT
In crafting this piece, I tapped into the compelling power of expression, a concept reinforced by the insights gleaned from James Gurney’s book called Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter. The painting serves as a testament to the way these elements can be harnessed to not only represent but also enhance reality, infusing the landscape with a sense of vitality and emotion. This work reflects my commitment to interpret the world around me through an individualistic lens, seeking to create art that is personal rendition rather than a direct copy of what I see.
Among the various mediums I’ve explored, painting initially posed the greatest challenge, pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone and skill set. Yet, it was through painting that intricacies of color theory and composition truly unfolded for me, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of visual storytelling. Overall, painting is by far my most favorite medium of artistic expression.

Creative Process
The inspiration for Last Light's Sight came from an evening visit to Disneyland, where I was mesmerized by the dramatic lighting used to enhance the park's rocky desert landscapes at Cars Land. The photos I took during this visit served as the primary references for the painting. I wanted to capture the surreal transformation that artificial lights brought to the natural textures and forms of the rocks.

The photos I took during this visit served as the primary references for the painting. I wanted to capture the surreal transformation that artificial lights brought to the natural textures and forms of the rocks.
I began by sketching different compositions, focusing on how to best convey the interplay of light and shadow. I decided on a layout that emphasized the depth and texture of the rocks while highlighting the vibrant colors cast by the lights. Using a combination of acrylic paints, I layered colors to build up the rich, dynamic surface. The challenge was to replicate the intensity and subtle gradations of the artificial lighting, which required meticulous attention to detail and multiple layers to achieve the desired effect.
Throughout the process, I continuously referred back to my photographs, ensuring that the painting retained the surreal yet captivating essence of the scene. Final adjustments were made to balance the composition and enhance the overall visual impact, resulting in a piece that invites viewers to experience the unique interplay of light and landscape.
