Alice's Tea Time in Wonderland
Project Overview
Alice’s Tea Time in Wonderland is a parallax animation project that explores a surreal, dreamlike environment inspired by the video game Alice: Madness Returns. The animation brings viewers into a whimsical but slightly eerie tea party scene, using depth, atmospheric effects, and layered motion to create an immersive visual experience.
Challenge
This project challenged me to design a scene entirely in Z-space, using parallax animation techniques to simulate a three-dimensional environment from 2D assets. It was also my first time learning and integrating Blender into my workflow, combining 3D modeling with After Effects compositing to create a refined and immersive result.
Solution
To build the scene, I first designed all environment elements — including the tea table, characters, and background details — and arranged them across different Z-depth layers to simulate depth and movement. I used Blender to model the book in the intro and animated it there before transitioning into a different dimension fully rendered in After Effects with parallax camera movements, lighting effects, and atmospheric details.
The result is an immersive loop animation that invites viewers into a darker, more whimsical Wonderland, blending surrealism and tension while maintaining a sense of visual storytelling. This project allowed me to expand my technical skills across both 2D and 3D workflows while crafting a cohesive and stylized environment.
