Project Overview
This frame-by-frame animation was created for a project focused on animating with rhythm. Set to “NEW MAGIC WAND” by Tyler, The Creator, the piece reflects my personality through its bold song choice, expressive hand-drawn style, and the handwritten type woven throughout.
Challenge
The challenge of this project was to animate with rhythm—using music not just as a background, but as the structural guide for every frame.
Solution
I chose Tyler, The Creator’s “NEW MAGIC WAND” for its rich musicality and complex arrangement. The track features layered textures, syncopated rhythms, and dynamic shifts in energy that move between dense, distorted sections and sparse, atmospheric breaks. These transitions—driven by changes in instrumentation, tempo, and percussion—gave me a strong foundation to build visuals that closely respond to the music, emphasizing moments of tension and release. I expressed this rhythm through frame-by-frame animation, handwritten typography, and a short choreography that I created, performed, filmed, and featured myself in as part of the video.
